The Experiment
A Very Special Benefit was a one-night-only event featuring documentary films about displacement, warfare and struggle. It concluded with a Brechtian vaudeville cabaret mourning the excesses and cruel humor of life to provide a momentary, yet dark, escape. (Critic’s Choice, Chicago Reader)

The Findings
As organizer and curator, The LEC succeeded on every level. We were able to bring a new film to Chicago (Encounter Point) and bring a film to the city’s north side that had sold out screenings on the south side the previous year (Darfur Diaries). Our after screening event, The Thin Man Cabaret, included performances by two exceptional Chicago bands, a humorist from Olztyn, Poland, and a local burlesque star, all hosted by Redmoon Theater’s Seth Bockley.
